😍 While I Was Looking at Porch Lights

agent prep disney travel agents

Before my husband and I were married, back when the internet was pretty new and online compatibility tests were apparently considered reliable science, we took one.

We scored 100%.

We've referenced that little test MANY times over the 26 years since we eloped in Las Vegas. And last night, I think the damn thing proved itself right again.

We were walking the dogs through the neighborhood when we passed a house and I said:

“Ohhhh, I love those porch lights!”

Craig responded:

“Have you ever heard of unconscious incompetence and the four stages of knowledge?”

...

You can see our brains were deeply engaged in the same conversation. πŸ˜‚

But here's the thing. I've been putting a lot of energy into sharing about the 2026 version of Agent Prep Program lately. There are so many aspiring Disney Travel Agents out there that I would LOVE TO HELP! Yet, it's been a challenge to cut through the social media noise without spending a bajillion dollars to do it. 😩 It's frustrating.

I KNOW how good the program is. I know how comprehensive it is. I've watched what happens when students go through it and realize they really can do this. It's amazing! Craig knows all of that too and... listens to a lot of podcasts.

So apparently, while I was walking along thinking about porch lights and giving my work brain a rest, he was thinking about the problem I've been trying to solve.

So like always,  I listened.

He explained that when you're learning something new, you basically move through four stages:

1. You don't know what you don't know.

2. Then you realize what you don't know.

3. Then you learn how to do it, but you still have to think your way through it.

And eventually...

4. You just know what you're doing.

And somewhere between unconscious incompetence and those really cute porch lights, I thought:

HOLY CRAP. THAT'S AGENT PREP! 🀩

Because one of the hardest things about teaching yourself an entirely new career isn't finding information. It's knowing what information you're supposed to find. 🎯

Maybe you've planned a dozen Walt Disney World vacations. You understand Lightning Lane. You know the resorts. Your friends already come to you when they're planning Disney vacations.

So you think, Maybe I could actually do this professionally. And you absolutely could!

But planning your own Disney vacations and running a travel business are two very different things.

There are host agencies, commission structures, supplier relationships, client qualification, insurance, terms and conditions, booking procedures, marketing, sales, systems and about 900 other things you may not even know you're supposed to know yet.

So sure, there's an incredible amount of free information out there. But...

How do you Google something you don't even know you're supposed to Google?

THAT is why I created Agent Prep. You aren't supposed to walk into my program already knowing how to be a travel advisor specializing in Disney destinations. If you did, you wouldn't need any guidance.

My job is to show you what you need to know, teach you how to do it and give you the tools and resources to actually start doing it. Until eventually you go from:

Could I really do this?

to

I know what I'm doing.

I've been struggling to find a simple way to explain why that matters.

And while I was busy thinking about porch lights, the guy I've been married to for 26 years was apparently thinking about me. πŸ’š (he's a green flag guy for sure!)

About my business. About this program we both believe in. About the thing I've been trying so hard to explain. And then, on a random walk with the dogs, he handed me the answer.

That silly internet compatibility test said we were a 100% match.

Twenty-six years later, I think they nailed it.

P.S. I still really like the porch lights. πŸ˜‚
